Social Project: YK Health & Safety Carnival 2024

(July 2024)

On July 13th and 14th, 2024, Yayasan Kossan, with the support of 96 volunteers and 40 exhibitors, hosted the YK Health and Safety Carnival for the fifth consecutive year. The event began with a vibrant Zumba session led by Zin Mas, setting an energetic tone for the festivities. This was followed by the official launching ceremony, which commenced with an opening speech by Mr. Lawrence Lim, President of Yayasan Kossan. Subsequent speeches were delivered by Mr. Shafeii Abdul Gaffor, YK’s Chairman, and Dr. Nur Adibah Mat Saruan, a Medical Specialist from the Klang District Health Office, who also officiated the event. Also in attendance were Dr. Leong Kai Hin and Ms. Sharon Dorairaj, members of YK’s Board of Trustees. The ceremony included a plaque signing by all VIPs, followed by a tour of the exhibitors’ booths.

This year’s carnival featured five informative talk sessions to enhance the event’s educational value. The first day included four talks, starting with Ms. Tee Yi Wen, a consultant dietician from Beacon Premier, who presented “Take Charge of Your Health”. The second talk, “Thriving at Home and Work: Ergonomic and Mental Health”, was delivered by Ms. Tan Joe Ee, a physiologist and marketing executive from ASP Medical. Mr. Somasuntharam, a certified trainer from Persatuan Bulan Sabit Merah Malaysia, conducted the third session, demonstrating proper CPR techniques. The day’s final talk, “Straight Talk About Scoliosis: How Early Intervention Can Make a Difference”, was given by Ms. Jennifer Ee, Head of Rehabilitation Services at ALTY Hospital.

The second day commenced with another invigorating Zumba session, led by Farie. Following this, Ms. Tan Joe Ee returned to deliver the fifth talk of the carnival, “Unplug and Connect: Strengthening Parent-Child Bonds in the Digital Age”.

Pusat Darah Negara participated once again as one of our regular exhibitors, successfully collecting 114 bags of blood donations from an estimated 700 visitors over the two-day event. Additionally, a blend of Western and Chinese traditional medical practitioners offered free services, contributing to the carnival’s diverse healthcare offerings.

Yayasan Kossan extends heartfelt gratitude to all volunteers, exhibitors, and visitors for their invaluable support in making this event a tremendous success.
