Social Project: YK Mini Project – Green Project @ Zoo Negara

Caring for animals goes beyond providing food and shelter. It also involves daily care, enrichment, and creating a safe and suitable environment for them to thrive. Through the Green Project @ Zoo Negara, Yayasan Kossan (YK) gave its volunteers the opportunity to experience what goes on behind the scenes of animal care while contributing their time and energy to a meaningful cause.

Starting bright and early at 7:30 a.m., 30 YK volunteers took on a variety of hands-on tasks. These included preparing food for the animals, cleaning exhibits and enclosures, assisting with basic animal husbandry and daily care, and helping to prepare behavioural enrichment activities to support the animals’ well-being.

After completing their tasks, the volunteers enjoyed lunch at The Wild Restaurant inside Zoo Negara. The afternoon continued at a more leisurely pace, with volunteers given free time to explore the zoo and visit its many animal exhibits.

The project offered a rewarding experience while giving volunteers a greater appreciation of the care involved in supporting animal welfare.
