Social Aid: Sijangkang Tree Planting 2022 (November 2022)

At Yayasan Kossan, we enjoy doing activities that are accessible to all who wish to do more for the nation and society. One of these events this year was mangrove tree planting, which we did at Taman Rekreasi Paya Bakau Sijangkang. A total of 23 volunteers joined us for this event.

The day began at 9AM with breakfast and light exercises to prepare the muscles of our volunteers for the tree planting that will happen later that day. Once ready, everyone was given a pair of the iconic “Phua Chu Kang” boots for safety before going for the walkthrough of the mangrove walkway spanning a distance of 1.8km.

Due to the rainy season, our volunteers had to work on very muddy and slippery terrain. Despite this challenge, however, they managed to plant 150 mangroves from the Bakau Kurap species. Some of our volunteers even ditched their boots to keep themselves from being stuck in the mud. The entire event lasted for four hours, with lunch being served at 12pm and the event ended at 1pm. Let us hope that the trees will grow well in their new home!
