Social Project: Mattress Donation for Flood Victims (January 2022)
On 18th December 2021, unprecedented floods hit Selangor that was caused by torrential downpours that continued for three days. In total, 71,000 residents were displaced, and 125,000 were affected, with 54 dead and 2 missing. Many of the residents, as well as the government, claimed the flood to be one of the worst in history that has affected Malaysia.
In the immediate aftermath of the floods, hundreds of volunteers went to the homes, neighborhoods, schools and buildings of those affected with donations and to help clean the area. Yet, as with any major disaster, the road to recovery is not that straightforward, often taking months to finally resume life as it was before.
In January 2022, a month after the initial floods and aid had been distributed, Yayasan Kossan reached out to donate 100 mattresses to the flood victims in Bukit Kapar, Meru, Kampong Lombong, Shah Alam, and Sri Muda, Shah Alam. We were generously aided by volunteers from Jabatan Kebajikan Masyarakat for this endeavor.
